The Tutor Distinction Award provides professional development workshops and recognition for campus tutors. Workshops cover a variety of topics and change each semester. 

Who can attend these professional development opportunities?

Students who tutor through University of Iowa Programs (e.g. Math Tutorial Lab, Tutor Iowa, etc.) are eligible to participate in the Tutor Distinction Award. If you are a student who is not associated with a specific University of Iowa tutor center/program and are interested in participating or are a faculty/staff member who is interested in having students participate, please contact Mary Catherine Graff at mary-graff@uiowa.edu.

How to become certified through the Tutor Distinction Award?

Individuals who complete the below components receive a certificate for their dedication to professional development and supporting student success through their tutoring services. 

  1. Complete the New Tutor Training foundational course
  2. Attend four Tutor Distinction Award workshops
  3. Tutor for two semesters
